Die To Yourself

Die To Yourself

Have we taught our churches and communities to be afraid to die? Or have be taught them to die to themselves so that they may live for Christ? I loved what Jeff Vanderstelt says about this topic and how we need to point people to Jesus. We can’t be Jesus for other people, they need him for themselves first! People need to see how essential Christ is to their own lives and to know for themselves that their lives have no meaning without Him. Then they can start to see how futile it is to live for themselves and they are then able to die to themselves so that Christ may live vicariously through them. This is no easy thing to do. It is something that must be worked through day by day. It’s not just by reading devotionals, but it’s by going through the hard places in your life and having God work through you the way He intends to, because it’s not going to look anything like what you would have imagined the proper action to be.

Amen… this is awesome! “…it’s by going through the hard places in your life and having God work through you the way He intends to, because it’s not going to look anything like what you would have imagined the proper action to be…” Boy, am I learning this to be true!

I read that Jim Elliot quote a few months back and really loved it. Another great quote that I’ve read recently that kind of relates to what you said about how we cannot be Jesus for other people is this: “Evangelism is but one beggar showing another beggar where to find bread.” How true! I forget who’s quote that is though. Thanks so much for sharing this =)
