Chores or Act of Love?

Chores or Act of Love?

How do we explain a relationship with a God? It’s kind of hard and I must admit that there really is no analogy that i can give because God is God, He’s uncomparable to anything on earth.

One thing that does hit my mind a lot of the time is that a lot of people think that Christianity is a bunch of laws and rules that we have to live up to in the hopes of “making it” in which we get to go to heaven. It’s so far from it. When people think of Christianity, they think of the TEN COMMANDMENTS and how God shoots down everyone who messes up even just a bit. It’s like our entire lives is just a continuing stressful game of trying to live up to a standard. In reality, we can’t. We’re playing a game of catch that we’d never win. Cuz living up to those rules, let’s face it, is impossible.

I’m sure that all of you have parents, and if you’re a normal kid, your parents have told you to do some chores. Chores like washing the dishes (chinese people buy new dishwashers just to store dishes), taking out the garbage, watering the plants, among other stuff. And let’s admit it, it’s not exactly the most enjoyable thing in the world to do. Sometimes we just feel as if we got a lot on our plate, we’re doing homework (but really on facebook), or we just feel entitled to the point where we feel that we shouldnt do any work. That’s how we usually imagine a relationship with God to be, a dictatorship telling us to do this and do that.

But what if we thought of it in another way? Do you love your parent? If we truly loved our parents, shouldn’t we be asking them if we could wash the dishes, take out the trash, mow the lawn, etc? How do you show love to your parent? Why not do all of these things because we love them? Help them take the load off their shoulders and love them because we’re their kids? Have you ever thought that way about God? Instead of thinking of all these as chores, why not think of them as ways to show our love to Him?

Let’s look at life a bit differently, and live our life as it should be, an act of love.
