Beauty and Love

Beauty and Love

So I recently saw this video from Dove on sketches of women. They had a facial sketcher sit down and sketch two drawings. One of the woman describing herself, and the other from another person describing the first woman. It was quite amazing to see how different each of these descriptions were and what was highlighted by each of the people. They don’t go quite in depth into exactly what qualities are described and how they are described but you can see that the women had certain things about them that they had been dwelling on and described prominently, and sometimes even negatively. Below is the video so you can watch it if you haven’t seen it yet.

Though I do wonder if the sketcher was a tiny bit biased because he knew that the first one was being described by the women and he might have either consciously or unconsciously made them a bit uglier to highlight a large change. Other than that, it was beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time at the end seeing the women looking at the two sketches of themselves. It was heartbreaking to see that they saw themselves as less beautiful than they actually were and awesome to see that people do see others as more beautiful. I do think that it’s very evident that a lot of women have insecurities about themselves and how they view themselves. It might be from relationships or physical beauty, but it is there a lot of times.

We see ourselves in one way, but we forget who’s opinion matters most, or at least who’s opinion should matter most. And no matter how we see ourselves, we need to know and understand and BELIEVE that God loves us so much. He does. He actually does. He created all of us, both women and men, and knew exactly how we were going to turn out, physically and all, and still loves us. Though he created everything that makes us us, God looks at our heart and the beauty of it. He sees you beautiful INSIDE AND OUT. Everything about each person is beautiful, and it’s even more beautiful in a relationship with the one who created us.

We need reminders of that, and though this psalm is quite overused, I still believe it’s a good reminder of the truth of God’s love! Hopefully my prayer is that my actions and those around me will grow to match both the love and actions of God himself so that we too can show those around us how much they mean to us. We should desire to show everyone around us how beautiful they are and how much God loves them, and that we do as well! So if you have the time, feel free to give this psalm a good read.

He sees you as beautiful and died to be in a relationship with you! His love was shown for all the world on the cross!

Psalm 139

Search Me, O God, and Know My Heart

To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.

O Lord, you have searched me and known me!

You know when I sit down and when I rise up;

you discern my thoughts from afar.

You search out my path and my lying down

and are acquainted with all my ways.

Even before a word is on my tongue,

behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.

You hem me in, behind and before,

and lay your hand upon me.

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;

it is high; I cannot attain it.

Where shall I go from your Spirit?

Or where shall I flee from your presence?

If I ascend to heaven, you are there!

If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!

If I take the wings of the morning

and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,

even there your hand shall lead me,

and your right hand shall hold me.

If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me,

and the light about me be night,”

even the darkness is not dark to you;

the night is bright as the day,

for darkness is as light with you.

For you formed my inward parts;

you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

Wonderful are your works;

my soul knows it very well.

My frame was not hidden from you,

when I was being made in secret,

intricately woven in the depths of the earth.

Your eyes saw my unformed substance;

in your book were written, every one of them,

the days that were formed for me,

when as yet there was none of them.

How precious to me are your thoughts, O God!

How vast is the sum of them!

If I would count them, they are more than the sand.

I awake, and I am still with you.

Oh that you would slay the wicked, O God!

O men of blood, depart from me!

They speak against you with malicious intent;

your enemies take your name in vain.

Do I not hate those who hate you, O Lord?

And do I not loathe those who rise up against you?

I hate them with complete hatred;

I count them my enemies.

Search me, O God, and know my heart!

Try me and know my thoughts!

And see if there be any grievous way in me,

and lead me in the way everlasting!
