First Community Group of the Summer

First Community Group of the Summer

Hey there peeps,

So I started a community group for this summer with my fellow cool person intern Lydia Nitchman. I wanted to do it cuz I thought it would be bad if I really had no community this summer and so I wanted to be intentional about it. Since we work for an organization that runs a mostly high school ministry we are focusing it on them but also on our fellow college friends who are back for the summer. We were kind of un-prepared but I had an idea in my mind about how I wanted to do it, cuz I was just going to do it the way we ran our men’s community group back at school. It was truly a blessing today. We had it at union square in the cafe place of whole foods. Sadly we didn’t promote it as well as we liked and were honestly expecting just one person other than us to come.

We got off of work and we went to union square an hour early so we could prep. And right after we got off the train we see this gigantic group of people, mostly young, with grey shirts and we got curious about what’s going on. I thought maybe it could be a promotion, a fair, a strike, or maybe even hopefully a Christian youth group. So i went up to two guys and introduced myself and asked what was going on and ding ding! Amazingly it was a youth group, from Texas! lol He told me there were about 220 people, and that’s just part of the group. They were there for one week and they were doing a concert in union square, which was pretty cool. We only stayed for like 5 minutes but it was encouraging to see them do that in public.

After we went to whole foods and spent some time praying and prepping for the meeting. I prayed that we would really leave the whole thing in the hands of God. We would just be faithful and prepare and we would put the burden of people coming on Him. And he did! One friend popped out of nowhere and surprised me and came cuz he heard we were in the area. So he and his other friend just stayed! Then I also saw my other friend from Cornell at whole foods just as we were starting our meeting that I hadn’t seen in a while! Praise God! He’s not a believer but he just happened to be there with a friend after class. He’s been coming to our fellowship for the longest time and we’re all still praying for him. I love that guy. haha. He finally trusted me with cutting his hair this past semester. He had to leave but it was good seeing him. lol. And then another girl who said that she couldn’t come cuz it was her bro’s bday came too! rofl, hope we didn’t take her away from family time. XD

But yea, Praise God! We only thought it would be a total of 3 people and God provided 4 more! It was amazing! I was truly blessed the whole time. We spent the first meeting looking at Acts 2:42-47, the model of biblical community, and it was good. I’ll put up my notes for it tomorrow. We spent the first half hour just chilling and playing a short game. Then we spent the next half to 45 min doing a bible study. and finally the last 15 minutes praying for each other. Then we went to Goodburger, home of the goodburger for dinner! which was nice.

All in all, praise God. The meeting was totally all Him and the work of the Holy Spirit. Things go well when you lay all your burdens and rest in Him. HI have no doubt God will work through the meetings in the weeks to come.

Pray for our community group, that it would be focused on Jesus and community. That we would grow in love for God and for people.

Poonie out!
