Psalm 57

Psalm 57

God’s been doing a lot of good to me through my reading of Psalms lately, and especially these day. So main context is that this is essentially King David’s journal and contains his thoughts and prayers. He’s basically always being hunted after and people always want to kill him and he just brings everything, all his pain, hurt, and thoughts, to God. Here’s some verses from Psalms 57 that have given me strength in God’s goodness these past days.

Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me,
for in you my soul takes refuge;
in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge,
till the storms of destruction pass by.
I cry out to God Most High,
to God who fulfills his purpose for me.
(Psalm 57:1-2 ESV)

My soul is in the midst of lions;
I lie down amid fiery beasts—
the children of man, whose teeth are spears and arrows,
whose tongues are sharp swords.
Be exalted, O God, above the heavens!
Let your glory be over all the earth!
(Psalm 57:4-5 ESV)

My heart is steadfast, O God,
my heart is steadfast!
I will sing and make melody!
Awake, my glory!
Awake, O harp and lyre!
I will awake the dawn!
I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples;
I will sing praises to you among the nations.
For your steadfast love is great to the heavens,
your faithfulness to the clouds.
Be exalted, O God, above the heavens!
Let your glory be over all the earth!
(Psalm 57:7-11 ESV)

This really comforted me and helped me to refocus my eyes, heart, and mind on God because I was going through just these feelings of “my soul is in the midst of lions; and I lie down amid fiery beasts,” and needed a good kick in the butt to look back and celebrate the goodness of our Lord and Savior.
