What if He doesn’t exist?

What if He doesn’t exist?

And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied. (1 Corinthians 15:17-19 ESV)

So with my last post I asked the question “What if God actually exists?” With that I’ve come to ask myself the question, what if He doesn’t? Then what has these past 5 plus years of my faith and even more years if you include me thinking about all this stuff and searching for it count for in the end?

Paul in the Bible in one of his letters to the Corinthians addresses this question himself. And I’m not liking the answer. He says very plainly, if Christ was not resurrected, that means that everything he said was wrong, that means that the God we believe in, which he claimed to be the son of, is not real, and there is no God, or at least not the God of the Bible. Then our faith is simply put, “FUTILE.” We would still be in our sins, but what would that matter if there is no God. Those who have died believing have just disappeared into nothingness, just as all atheists claim is true. This life is the one life we’ll have, there is no afterwards.

So this is really to a lot of the Christians out there, which includes myself. Paul says that if we have hope in Christ in this life only, meaning it does nothing for us afterwards, then “WE ARE OF ALL PEOPLE MOST TO BE PITIED.”

Why should Christians be pitied if God doesn’t exist you ask? BECAUSE WE WOULD HAVE WASTED OUR ONLY LIFE. We could have tried our hardest to become the next napoleon, we could have killed our enemy without any true consequences because this life is it, we could have lived our life according to the life rule of many, “only the strong survive.”

But to live as a Christian, God calls us to give up our entire lives to Him if we are to be His sons and daughters. He calls us to come and die, to take our cross and follow Christ to our death so that we might be with Him in heaven forever. He calls us to put Him first above everything else on this earth, including family and friends, to spend our entire lives to expand His glory. To put our lives in His hands and trust that His will for us is better than anything else we could ever imagine.

I’m not calling you to doubt your faith or to start doubting that there is a God out there. What I’m asking you to do, if you are a believer, is to make sure that YOU ACTUALLY DO BELIEVE THERE IS A GOD OUT THERE. Make sure that you’re on one side of the road or the other, don’t think you can survive in the middle, you’d do much better figuring out which side you want to go on NOW and live your life out to the fullest on whichever side you pick.

But I do implore you to spend some time and investigate for yourself if the road of Christianity is really what you believe in.

And if you are a believer, solid in your relationship with God, IF IN THE 0% THAT GOD DOESN’T EXIST, ARE YOU LIVING A LIFE THAT OTHERS WOULD PITY?
